From Wesleyan University President Michael S. Roth:
“Every spring Wesleyan recognizes outstanding teaching with three Binswanger Prizes for Excellence in Teaching. These prizes, made possible by gifts from the family of the late Frank G. Binswanger Sr., Hon. ’85, underscore Wesleyan’s commitment to its scholar-teachers, who are responsible for the University’s distinctive approach to liberal arts education.
Recommendations are solicited from alumni of the last 10 graduating classes, as well as current juniors, seniors, and graduate students. Recipients are chosen by a selection committee of faculty and members of the Alumni Association Executive Committee.”
This year’s recipients were Douglas Arthur Martin, Assistant Professor of the Practice in Creative Writing, Sonali Chakravarti, Associate Professor of Government, and Anna Shusterman, Associate Professor of Psychology.
From the Wesleyan Office of Advancement:
“The Binswanger Prize for Excellence in Teaching was inaugurated in 1993 as an institutional recognition of outstanding faculty members… The standards and criteria for the annual prizes shall be excellence in teaching, as exemplified by commitment to the classroom and student accomplishment, intellectual demands placed on students, lucidity and passion.”
Congratulations, Professors Chakravarti and Shusterman!
